In brief
What is CAIRS?
CAIRS are ring segments made from processed donor corneal tissue that are inserted into a laser-created tunnel in the cornea and flatten a keratoconus bulge. At EyeLaser Zürich, Dr. Victor Derhartunian implants CAIRS with the SCHWIND ATOS femtosecond laser, usually together with corneal crosslinking (CXL). CAIRS costs CHF 4’500 per eye in Zurich.
