Your prescription should not have changed for at least twelve months before the procedure (ideally even longer) to be suitable for Femto-LASIK.
Healthy eyes are also essential. Diseases such as cataracts or retinal conditions simply do not allow treatment with Femto-LASIK.
If you have long-sightedness, a value of plus 4 is the maximum up to which you can have the procedure.
In the case of short-sightedness, the permitted value is minus 10.
We can treat corneal curvatures with Femto-LASIK up to a value of 6 dioptres.
One thing should be clear, however: Which method is best for a patient is determined solely by the doctor. He knows the patient and, above all, he knows the eye that needs to be treated. Accordingly, it is not always the diopter values alone that are the deciding factor.
The LASIK method for vision correction has been in practice since 1990. It is now the most commonly used method in laser surgery. The technique has even been approved for NASA astronauts and jet pilots of the Navy. The modern development is the Femto-LASIK method.
The Femto-LASIK procedure, also called All-Laser LASIK, is the modern evolution of LASIK surgery.
The conventional LASIK surgery method involves the surgeon cutting the cornea with a scalpel. This carries risks.
In Femto-LASIK surgery, the surgeon makes an incision using a high-precision femtosecond laser. The femtosecond laser cuts much more precise than the scalpel. This results in a thinner flap, saving more tissue.
This technique is safer, and the healing process is accelerated. It can also be used to treat greater visual defects.
You will notice immediately after the operation that you can see clearly through the thick tear film. However, you should keep the eye covered for the rest of the day. You will be able to see relatively well only hours after the surgery.
Femto-LASIK is the most advanced technology in laser eye surgery. It is our preferred and standard choice at EyeLaser. We use one of the most advanced femtosecond lasers on the market, the ZIEMER Leonardo da Vinci Z6 from Switzerland.
The advantages:
Disadvantages:
Due to the continuous development of excimer laser technology, most side effects have become very rare.
Due to the cutting of the flap during Femto-LASIK surgery, strange sensations in the eye may occur in the first days after the treatment. The regeneration of the cornea takes a few days to weeks.
A day after Femto-LASIK surgery, you may feel abnormal sensations in the eye such as burning or stinging.
The regeneration of the cornea with Femto-LASIK surgery only takes 2-3 days.
