Femto-LASIK 7D in Zurich: the essentials in brief

In Femto-LASIK a femtosecond laser creates a wafer-thin corneal flap. Beneath it the AMARIS 1050RS excimer laser reshapes the cornea, then the flap is laid back. The designation 7D stands for seven-dimensional tracking, which compensates involuntary eye movements within milliseconds. Femto-LASIK is the most established procedure and the only laser procedure that also corrects long-sightedness reliably.

Traffic Light System: Am I Suitable for Femto-LASIK?

A thorough preliminary examination is the key to success. Here is a simple overview for initial guidance:

🟢 Green light (ideal candidates): Age between 20 and 45. Stable glasses prescription for at least two years. Myopia up to approx. -8 dpt, hyperopia up to approx. +3 dpt, astigmatism up to approx. 5 dpt. Sufficient corneal thickness and no eye diseases.

🟡 Yellow light (assessment required): Mildly dry eyes. Large pupils. Thinner cornea. Age over 45 (procedures such as PresbyMAX or lens exchange may be more suitable here).

🔴 Red light (not suitable—consider alternatives): Unstable glasses prescription. Severe eye conditions (e.g. keratoconus). Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your alternatives: For these cases, we offer safe and proven alternatives such as the implantable contact lens (ICL) or refractive lens exchange (RLA).

  • Dry eyes: Normal in the first weeks after the procedure and easy to treat with eye drops.
  • Sensitivity to glare (glare/halos): Especially at night, light sources may initially appear with halos. This usually improves significantly within a few weeks or months.
  • Under- or overcorrection: In very rare cases, a follow-up treatment may be advisable, which is usually free of charge with us within the first year.
